PLAYER SPOTLIGHT NO.4 - MARK
McCORMACK
For this weeks spotlight we have
chosen one of the clubs unsung heroes. Mark isn't one of
the clubs best players nor does he play in one of the
glamour positions, infact, his biggest claim to fame is
that he is the clubs oldest player. mark is however every
bit as important as our star players, because he has
the right attitude towards the club and the game. After
last seasons game at fylde, when Mark was injured it was
thought that he might not return to playing, but
thankfully, that is all in the past and mark still gives
100 percent. We have mark to thank for the photo below
and so we would like to pay tribute to a great sportsman.

and a brief history of the Cougars
The
Railroaders formed in November 1984 and played their
first season of football in UKAFA, where they became
central division champions. Highlights of the year were
performances by Phil Oakes at running back and receivers
Gary Stanyer and Mark Edwards. For the defense captain
Wayne Stanyer was outstanding.
For 1986 the Railroaders joined the BAFL and played in
the Anglo conference northern division. Once again Phil
Oakes was top running back and Wayne Stanyer lead the
defense but the surprise discovery of the year was rookie
wide receiver Steve Valentine who finished the season as
best receiver in BAFL. All the more impressive was his
achievement when you consider that he played 3 fewer
games than Leeds star Sammy Pryce. Gavin Meredith emerged
as a very capable quarterback, passing for over 1000
yards and defensive lineman Ian Hollinshead was picked to
play for Great Britain, the only player chosen from a
small club
