Leeds Cougars
v
Oxford Bulldogs
Quarter Final Budweiser Premier Bowl
Bramley R.L.F.C. Ground
Sunday 16th August K.O. 2p.m.
CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE
Hi
Welcome to sunny Bramley (who say's I'm a pessimist?) for our
quarter final play off. Today's opponents are the Oxford Bulldogs
who I'm sure you'll give a big "Cool Cats" welcome. The
Bulldogs like us were quarter finalists in 1985 and they too had
a rebuilding year in 1986. I'm sure they will be looking to prove
something today. lets hope that we used up all of our fumbles
last week, five in one is more than enough!
Today we welcome back Keith Kelly and Glenn Stevens hopefully
fully recovered from injury. Tiggy Bell also returns this week
after shooting scenes for Miami Vice with Don Johnson on location
in Bradford (that's what I heard him telling this blonde last
night)
This is the first opportunity I have had to apologise to you all
for the many off-field upsets we have had this year. I can assure
you that this has not been the responsibility of the management
team, but has been caused by people who apparently care little
for our game, or our supporters. Who said that the council works
for the people?
To give you some idea just how much we care for our supporters
the game against Wirral Wolves on the 26th July took 4 nights, 47
phone calls, 1nervous breakdown, and worse of all it necessitated
me being nice to George Aguado, before finally at 11p.m. on
Saturday night we had a game. That's how much we care!
Anyway "Cool Cats" just remember, if like me you want
to be really cool you have to wear shades when its not sunny, a pink jumper when it rains, and really jazzy green and white
shoes when it's muddy. Bad taste rules OK!
Stay Cool

SUPPORTERS CLUB NOTES
When I first took on the job of looking after the supporters club
I didn't know how it would grow. The season before last there
were about 30/40 members and at this time the sale of souvenirs
and coach bookings for away games were handled by the club. All I
did was sell the goodies at home games and that was the end of
it. Now!! 140 members and a fantastic following to away games. At
the beginning of the season I stated that the coaches would be
cancelled if we did not receive sufficient support and I hoped
that I could fill at least 3/4 of a coach. You exceeded all
expectations and every coach was full and some even overbooked.
may I thank you all for your support which has helped reduce the
losses suffered on the first two coaches
TEAM PHOTOGRAPHS
I understand that a team photo was taken before last Sundays game
against Wirral Wolves. All members will receive a copy as soon as
I can get them printed
PREMIER BOWL FINAL
Should we get to the final, a trip to Cardiff is being arranged.
Departing Saturday pm returning Sunday. the cost inclusive of bed
and breakfast will be somewhere in the region of £18 to £20.
Anyone interested please give your name to me, David or Eddie.
I also understand that the team will again be going to Holland. I
went on last years trip and it was a really good weekend. More
details later.
MONTHLY MEETINGS
A number of people have enquired about meeting once a month
during the close season. We are making arrangements with a pub
close to the city centre where we can meet. More details when
confirmation is received.
MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL
Not many people will wish to receive the same things year after
year therefore I have decided the 3 pound subscription will be
for the first year only. All renewals will be one pound 50. A new
plastic credit card type membership card will be issued next
year.
Because of the pressures of my job things tend to be left until
the weekends when I have a couple of hours spare, and I do
apologise to anyone who has been waiting for a reply to any
letters they may have sent to me.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Eddie and Val
Jackson, David and Ann Sutcliffe and the many other people who
have so kindly helped me during the season.
Finally, next year we are going to form a proper committee to run
the supporters club. it is obviously growing and becoming too
much for one person. I have received several nominations and if anyone else wishes to put their name forward please contact me.
There will be 5 members, consisting of Secretary/Treasurer,
Chairperson, Social Secretary, and 2 others
Again, there will be a short meeting following today's game so I
will see you all then.
Best Wishes
ERIC
COUGARS V SCUNTHORPE STEELERS
The Cougars finished the regular season 2 weeks ago with a 32-8
victory over the Scunthorpe Steelers
Taking first possession and moving the ball 67 yards on 6 plays
the Cougars were 1st and goal on the 2 yard line and looked
likely to score early in the game. Steve Bertrand was tackled for
a 4 yard loss and Hector Hurley broke through to the 1 yard line
but had the ball stripped from him and the ball advanced by
Stowe. Chuck Brogdon was on hand to make a T.D. return stopping
tackle.
During this period the Steelers were playing well and on 3
occasions had field goal attempts of 33, 37 and 39 yards all of
which failed. The Cougars defence was playing well and sacked
Huxford four times through Gordon Parker, Moss Green, Mick
Hardaker and Paul Muscroft. The offence was not firing on all
cylinders and fumbled the ball away twice when within yards of
scoring
The second half saw the Cougars perform to their normal high
standards and score on all their first 5 possessions.
Paul Pryce led the way breaking through the middle with Eddy
Harry added 6 more points on a 15 yard sweep.
Steelers got in on the act with a 6 yard score by John Strachen
and 2 points from Andy Squire. The Cougars hit back immediately
when Tim Casey hauled in an eleven yard pass from QB Chuck
Brogdon. The quarter finished with Paul Pryce dancing his way
downfield on a 40 yard TD run. Hector Hurley added the 2 points
making the 3rd quarter score 26-8
The 4th quarter gave Dave McIntosh the opportunity to show his
speed when scoring from 9 yards out
This was the last score of the game though the Cougars had
several more scoring opportunities but dropped passes left the
Cougars having to punt.
Today's game see the return of Tiggy Bell following suspension,
Keith Kelly, Zeph McIntosh, Adrian Kneeshaw and Pete Huckerby all
returning to the defence after illness or injury
